Information for parents of children currently in year 2

Preparing for September 2019

May 2019

It was great to see so many of you at the assembly on the 22nd May. I know some of you were not able to attend so I thought it would be useful to put together a summary of the information that I shared regarding transition.

8th July - Year 3 teachers will teach Year 2 children in their classes at Letchmore for the whole morning

9th July - Year 2 children spend the morning at Almond Hill. Parents drop year 2 children at Almond Hill at 9.00am. Almond Hill teachers walk children back to Letchmore in time for lunch. Please enter via the main entrance hall doors.

9th July - Mrs. Birchall, our SENCO will be available at 9.00am to meet with parents of children with special educational needs.

11th July - Transition Day – Year 2 children to visit Almond Hill. Children will stay at Almond Hill all day. Please drop your child via the class room doors at 9.00am. They will need to bring a packed lunch with them. Please collect your child at 2.30pm and come and say ‘Hello’ to the class teacher.

First 2 weeks of September - Year 3 to teach a cross curricular project based on ‘Journey’.

27th September 2.00-2.45pm - Open afternoon for parents and Year 2 teachers to see projects.

Before transition you will be sent a copy of our ‘welcome booklet’ that will cover a range of information. However please feel free to contact us using the details above if you would like any information beforehand.

Other Visits

Miss Garvey, our PE coach is organising a lunchtime PE club for each Year 2 class from 3rd June for 6 weeks. She will be going to Letchmore with our Year 6 sports leaders to organise games at lunchtime.

Summer School 27th August 10.00am -2.00pm.

Children are invited to come to our summer school which takes place a few days before the start of term. It is a chance for children to familiarise themselves with the school environment and their teachers just before their first day.

This is not essential as we appreciate that this may clash with your own holiday dates and not all children will be able to attend. If you wish your child to come along they will need a packed lunch. Further details will follow.

If your child has special educational needs our SENCO, Mrs. Birchall, will be available at 9.00am on 9th July to meet with parents. Year 2 teachers will inform parents if this involves your child. If you are unable to meet with Mrs. Birchall on the 9th July then please contact the office at Almond Hill and we will be happy to make an appointment for you.

Accompanying this letter are forms that we need you to complete for admission purposes. Please can you complete and return them all to Letchmore or the office at Almond Hill by Friday 14th June.

We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions at any time, please contact Mrs. Lovelock or Mrs. Joannou at Almond Hill.

You can find copies of the forms that need to be filled in below or please ask at the Almond Hill office.

School Uniform

Uniform may be ordered online through My Clothing at - then by selecting ‘school’ and following through to customise items. Please support your child to look after their uniform by naming items clearly.

It is very important that you inform us of any medical needs your child may have so we know how best to support them.

If your child has asthma please complete the form below 'Request to Carry an Inhaer' and return to the main office.

If your child has a medical condition that requires treatment with an Epipen please fill in and return the consent form below.

If you are providing packed lunches for your child they must not include any nut products.
