Year 4

Autumn 2019/20

Meet the Year 4 Team

Mrs. Bond - I am a Year 4 teacher and I enjoy the fact that every day is different. I think providing a learning environment where children can develop a thirst for knowledge and grow as individuals is why I went into teaching.  In my spare time I love to spend time with my family and friends.

Mrs. Lyons  - I am a year 4 teacher. I love teaching children of all ages and help them reach their potential. I have taught in the United States as well as the UK so I have a wide range of experience. I enjoy spending time with my daughters and swimming. My school responsibility is computing.

Miss. Coulter - I am a year 4 teacher and have taken on the role of INCO. I like seeing children work creatively within all subjects, especially maths. In my spare time I enjoy netball and I have started a Y5&6 Netball Club in school.

Mrs Welham, Mrs Bell and Mrs Hodgkinson will be supporting us in our learning this year.

2019/2020 Year 4 Learning Updates

November 2019

The children have enjoyed making an array city in Miss Coulter’s class!

Mrs Lyons and Bond’s classes have been improving their xylophone skills every week.

Practice has begun for our nativity show…watch this space.

October 2019

As part of our whole school Remembrance service, we created poppies out of recycled plastic bottles. Each child in Year 4 held their poppy during our two minutes silence at 11 o’clock on 11th November to show their respect to those who have given their lives in battle.

Thank you to all the children and parents who donated plastic bottles to make this project possible. We will be displaying the poppies in the main entrance of the school as a lasting tribute.

September 2019

It’s hard to believe September is almost over.  We’ve been learning to round numbers and improve our sentence structures. The children have begun to write simple programs in computing and have learnt sketching techniques and colour theory.

We shall be investigating dialogue punctuation with coloured boarder roll soon!

Use red border roll for actual speech
use yellow for all punctuation
use green for 'said' words
use blue to describe what they did as they said it

Autumn 2019

Welcome to Year 4! We hope you had a restful summer and are ready to start a new term at Almond Hill with lots of new learning.

Our English focus in the first few weeks of the Autumn Term has been on Ted Hughes’ Iron Man. The story is based on a mysterious robot who appears on a clifftop one dark night. We are concentrating on adventurous word choices, appropriate similes and fronted adverbials in our writing.

In addition to this, in maths we shall be learning about: place value, rounding, the four operations, measures, data handling and perimeter.
