Tree Planting
Members of the Eco Committee, along with some children from year 3, joined in with planting-out the new perimeter hedge line. Mr Boakes and Mr Brown were digging and back filling, and the children assisted in spreading out the new whips along the western fence. The whips (baby hedging) were supplied by the Woodland Trust as part of a nationwide initiative. The hedging included indigenous UK species such as; hawthorn, dogwood, rowan, and hazel. These will form part of a natural screen and keep nature on the move by providing shelter, berries and natural habitats.
The children enjoyed getting stuck into the soil and getting their hands dirty. With the army of helpers and year 5 and 6s buddying up with year 3s, the job was done in no time.
