Clean Air Day

The Almond Hill ECO Committee have been discussing 'Clean Air Day' over the last few weeks - the UK's biggest campaign against air pollution. They learnt that pollution in the air can affect your whole body and when you breathe in pollutants, they can pass through your lungs, into your bloodstream and to other organs in the body. Air pollution can cause strokes, heart disease, lung problems and other chronic illnesses. The children were shocked to find out that children are particularly at risk from air pollution as their lungs and immune systems are still developing. As well as this, every year, up to 36,000 deaths in the UK are caused by air pollution!

This year, Clean Air Day was on Thursday 19th June and the children were keen to share what they had learnt with children in their year groups - promoting awareness of behaviours that can reduce air pollution, such as walking instead of driving. Well done for showing such confidence and determination for a brighter future ECO crew!
