Issue 10 - 14th November 2025
Dear Families,
Our Open Evening was absolutely fantastic! It was wonderful to see the school come alive with visitors, laughter and excitement. The event was a great opportunity to showcase to the community what a fantastic school we are and to share the pride we have in everything we do.
The classrooms looked amazing and each subject area was beautifully presented, highlighting the creativity, hard work and enthusiasm of both staff and students. It truly was a celebration of our school community at its best!
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Year 6 ambassadors for volunteering their time at our Open Evening last night. They represented our school with great pride and the feedback from visiting parents was overwhelmingly positive. It’s always wonderful to hear kind words about our pupils but it is especially rewarding when those comments come from members of the wider community. Our tour guides this year were truly outstanding – confident, capable and engaging with the many families who visited the school.
Have a good weekend.
Emma Fordham,
Headteacher

Key Messages
Our Art in the Community
Our art club are taking part in this year’s Stevenage Creative Network art trail in Westgate Shopping Centre. Children have transformed a box into a 3D Christmas present. There are 8 schools taking part including Almond Hill and the boxes will be hidden amongst 8 shop windows. A trail sheet will lead people around the shopping centre to find the presents and collect the letters to win a prize. If you’re in town, why don’t you have a go at the trail and see if you can spot our Christmas present!

SEND and Pastoral – Save the Dates
Afternoon tea: Monday 8th December at 2:30pm.
We welcome all parents to attend (whether your child has a diagnosis or not) if they feel they would benefit from speaking to our SENCo and/or our pastoral team. In our experience, almost all children benefit from pastoral support during their journey at school. Examples of where this has been supportive in the past are when friendship issues arise, loss of a pet, online issues outside of school, family break up and bereavement. We are always delighted when more parents join us.

Athlete Visit – Information about Sponsorship
We’re excited to be welcoming a top GB athlete to the school soon with Great Athletes! All pupils will take part in a sponsored fitness circuit led by the athlete, and come home with some important and inspiring lessons learned during a motivational assembly and Q&A session. Not only will the visit connect the pupils with an extraordinary athlete role model but will also help to raise money for new sports equipment that will improve levels of physical activity in our school! You can sponsor your child by visiting: https://sportal.greatathletes.org/events/landing. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code to go directly to the online sponsorship page.

As a thank you, pupils will receive the following thank-you gifts for meeting these milestones:
- Raise anything: A5 sheet of motivational stickers
- Raise £5 or more: sheet of stickers, plus a blue Great Athletes wristband
- Raise £15 or more: all of the above, plus a red wristband with the athlete’s signature
- Raise £30 or more: all of the above, plus a signed athlete poster
Please also make sure that your children come to school on the event day with their PE Kits! Thank you in anticipation of creating a terrific and memorable event. Please note: We are not able to take cash sponsorship at school so please use the link or QR code above to sponsor your child.
Please ensure that the sponsorship is completed 1 week after the event has taken place. The QR code will take you to a page where you can set up a fundraising form for your child. When you have set up the parent login, you can use your child’s initials only if you wish on the fundraising form, rather than their full name.Year 3 Christmas Play
Lights, Camel, Action!
Children in year 3 have been very busy rehearsing for the Christmas musical in December. Historically, this is a very popular performance for parents but the space in the hall does limit tickets. Because we know this is a very popular event and by listening to parents’ views and our experiences over the last few years, staff have kindly agreed to hold this event for two nights instead of just one. This means that more family members can attend. However, this does come with some requests from us too to make sure it is an enjoyable and successful event for all.
- Families can order two tickets for ONE of the evening performances and two tickets for the afternoon performance. Following some queries from parents we wanted to clarify that siblings are counted in the number of tickets allocated. If you are bringing a child to the event, they will need their own seat.
- Please do not book more than 2 tickets for the evening performances. The system will allow you to book 2 for both nights but we will remove any tickets ‘purchased’ above the allocated amount across the evening performances to ensure it is fair for everyone.
- Please don’t book tickets if you won’t be using them – this means other families might miss out.
- Please don’t attend without booking – space in our hall is limited and my priority is to keep children and families safe by adhering to fire risk assessments and health and safety regulations. These exist to prevent accidents and are written by experts.
Performance times:
- Wednesday 3rd December 6.00-7.00pm
- Thursday 4th December 1.30-2.30pm
- Thursday 4th December 6.00-7.00pm
The tickets are free and will be available on the Arbor School Shop and will open on Friday 14th November at 4.00pm and will close on Monday 24th November at 9.30am. If there are still tickets spare after the closing date, we will reopen to parents to allow for extra tickets. Tickets are strictly offered on a first come first saved basis.
It is crucial children are present for each performance even if you do not have tickets for a particular showing. This is especially important for any child who has a speaking part. If your child is not able to attend the evening performances, please let their class teacher know by Friday 14th November so the part they are given can be considered carefully. You can email year3@almondhill.herts.sch.uk or you can speak to the class teacher at drop off/collection.
For the evening performances, children will need to be dropped back to the year 3 classroom doors at 5.40pm and collected from the classroom doors at the end of the performance.
Class teachers will tell children the part that they will be playing along with a costume suggestion. You can ask the class teacher at pick up if you need clarification. We absolutely do not expect parents to buy any costumes for the performance. We do not want to put any pressure on parents and we have suggested simple ideas but if you do not have anything suitable at home, a Christmas jumper or school clothes are also fine.
Please note, although this is not a nativity, it is a Christmas musical with Christian themes. If you would rather your child did not participate for any reason, please email year3@almondhill.herts.sch.uk. We would politely ask that this is done as soon as possible so that we do not offer your child a speaking role in the performance.
More information will follow but if you have any queries, please do ask. If you are wondering, other people might be too.

Football Update - Almond Hill vs Camps Hill
On Thursday, our Year 5/6 football team had their first league game of the season against Camps Hill.
The boys played well and are getting better and playing more as a team every time they step on the pitch. Despite lots of chances, they were unlucky to be 1-0 down at half time but still very much in the game. The boys…
Anti-Bullying Week
This week was anti-bullying week. Every class watched the BBC live lesson about Anti Bullying week which covered ways to prevent and respond to bullying. The children really enjoyed hearing some live music and were inspired by his talent and dedication to music.
