Issue 23 - 6th March 2026
Dear Families,
Wow. We really enjoyed World Book Day this week! A big thank you must be given to the FOAH for organising the World Book Day event which celebrated two wonderful things – chocolate and reading!
There were lots of fabulous costumes and discussions about what books we enjoy reading. The children took part in the World Book Day event: The Great Big Footy & Booky Quiz hosted by the National Literacy Trust where we learnt lots of facts! Some children then created their very own bookmarks taking inspiration from Draw with Rob.
Year 6 volunteers joined me and Miss Simmons reading at Letchmore. It was great fun! Eva said they spotted things in the book that I had missed!
FOAH will be with us again next Thursday as we open the doors to the Mother’s Day Present Room. Please remember, preordering makes these events much easier for FOAH to manage. Pre-ordering on the Arbor school shop closes at 9.00am on Monday.

Kindness of the week - offer to teach a friend something that they don't know how to do.
'Kindness' the value of the month for March, got off to a great start in our assemblies on Monday where our fantastic video was shown exploring what this looks like at Almond Hill and explained really well by the class kindness ambassadors. Have a look for yourselves!
Key Messages
Parent Survey

I am glad many of you are using our school website. It is clear from your feedback that for most of you, your priorities for our website are the same – term dates, calendar, contact details, curriculum information and to go back to the newsletter. There weren’t many suggestions for changes but we have actioned those that we can. For example, we were asked to make it easier for parents to book lunches so we have added a tab under ‘information for parents’ where you can now ‘book your child’s lunch on SchoolGrid.’
Science Morning for Parents - Friday 13th March 8.45-10.30am
British Science Week is a ten‑day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. To mark the occasion, we are delighted to invite parents and carers into school on Friday 13th March for an exciting, science‑focused morning in the classrooms.
The morning will begin in the hall from 8:45am, giving children time to settle into class and be registered. Our wonderful Headteacher’s Assistants will then guide you to your child’s classroom, where you can enjoy a science experiment with your child.
The session will finish before 10:30am, allowing children to head out for break as normal. If you have children in more than one class, please feel free to move between classrooms. Everyone is welcome and we would love to see as many families as possible.
Important Information
-
The drop‑off zone will remain open to provide additional parking spaces.
-
Families should enter the hall via the door in the quadrant.
-
There isn’t a lot of room in our classrooms so buggies will need to be left outside the classroom.
-
All parents/carers/family members must sign in and out using the QR code provided.
-
Please ensure you leave the school site via the main office.
We never know exactly how many people will attend so be mindful, it could be very busy and if the weather is warm, extra bodies can make the school very hot! We look forward to a fantastic morning celebrating science with you!
Year 6 Leavers’ Hoody
We are delighted to share that, once again, our wonderful Friends of Almond Hill have generously agreed to fund yearbooks and leavers’ hoodies for all of our Year 6 children. This is a considerable donation, and one we know families will be incredibly grateful for.
Although many of you may not be ready to think about the end of the year just yet, it is approaching quickly, which means we need to begin collecting orders. Please use the form linked below to select your child’s hoodie size.
Year 6 Leavers' Hoodies Order Form - 2025-26 – Fill out form
Last year, a few children were disappointed with the size their parents chose, so we kindly ask that you check the attached size guide carefully before submitting your order.
The deadline for ordering is 9.00am on Monday 20th April. After this date, if we have not received your selection, we will choose a size on your behalf so the order can be placed in time. Please note, the order cannot be changed once it has been placed.

Swimming
We are beginning to prepare for November’s swimming sessions, which will take place in the popup pool. Although the pool will not be on site until November, we need to gather consent now so that we can plan ahead. Please complete the consent request on Arbor even if you have done so previously.
Consent received this year will remain in place until your child leaves Almond Hill. You are welcome to amend your consent at any time by contacting the school office.
We continue to collect information about children’s swimming progress outside of school. If your child attends swimming lessons, please let us know when they achieve any new stages so we can update our records. This is a huge help when planning sessions and writing reports. Please email any updates to admin@almondhill.herts.sch.uk.
If you would like some more information about the pop-up pool, you can look on our website: https://www.almondhill.herts.sch.uk/page/?title=Swimming+at+Almond+Hill&pid=231 Please note that some of the information may be adjusted slightly when we agree final arrangements.
Thank you for your support.
Art Club – Survey for Parents of Children in Years 4 and 5
We are looking into what other clubs we can offer to families. Some local schools offer an art club which is run by ‘My After School Art Club’. We would like to gather an idea of interest for this club if we were to introduce it next year. It would be for Years 5 and 6 (So current 4 and 5) and would be a six week club costing £12 per session.
Advance notice – change to school dinner prices
As of 1st April 2026, the price of a school meal will increase from £3.45 to £3.55
Diary Dates
Did you know, you can subscribe to our calendar to keep up to date with the events going on within the school?
Follow the link below, select 'subscribe' and follow the instructions for your device.
You can download and print the term dates for 2026-27.
50p Book Sales
Our pre-loved book sales take place during the school day. Children can bring cash to school for these. Books cost 50p each.
- Wednesday 25th March
We would love to add more books to our sales (particularly chapter books). If you have any you would like to donate, they would be gratefully received. Please give any books to your child’s class teacher.
SEND and Pastoral – Save the Dates
We welcome all parents to attend our SEND and Pastoral 'drop ins' (whether your child has a diagnosis or not) if they feel they would benefit from speaking to our SENCo and/or our pastoral team. In our experience, almost all children benefit from pastoral support during their journey at school. Examples of where this has been supportive in the past are when friendship issues arise, loss of a pet, online issues outside of school, family break up and bereavement. We are always delighted when more parents join us.
Afternoon tea: Monday 23rd March - 2.30-3.15pm
This is a change of date as we have ADD-vance coming to join us.

FOAH News...
World Book Day Event
Mother’s Day Present Room
We're pleased to announce that the Mother's Day Present Room is taking place again this year. FOAH volunteers have been busy behind the scenes and we have even more gifts for the children to choose from this year than last time. Please go to the School Shop area of Arbor to place your order....
Things to remember:
- If you have more than one child at the school, please make sure you place your order through each child's Arbor account separately, so they're not all listed against one child's name.
- The quantity of presents in the School Shop are of Arbor can be selected under order information (quantity) - 'tap to pick' - select quantity between 1-9 presents. If you wish to purchase more than 9, you will need to do this in a separate transaction. There is no limit to the number you can buy per child.
- Only Almond Hill children can visit the present room, but your child can choose extra gifts on behalf of siblings not at the school.
- Please tell your child for whom they are choosing gifts before the day itself, so they can pick suitable presents.
The deadline for payments in Arbor is 3pm on Monday 9th March.
About Mother's Day Present Room:
The event takes place during the school day on Thursday 12th March. On that day, the children can choose a secret present for the important women in their lives. We have gifts for mums, step-mums, aunts, grandmas, carers, and so on — there's no limit to the number of gifts you can buy per child. Each gift is then brought home at collection time in an individual sealed gift bag that can be hidden at home, ready to give on Mother's Day!
Cash payments will be accepted on the day of the present room if needed, but we would be grateful if payments could be made in advance on Arbor, as this enables us to plan ahead and make sure there are enough gifts for every child taking part.
All funds raised will go towards equipment and events that enhance the children’s school experience. If you have any questions, please reach out to the FOAH team. Our email is: foah@almondhill.herts.sch.uk

We hope the children enjoy the gift-picking fun!

Match Funding
Can you help FOAH raise even more money for our school?
You will hopefully be aware of the fantastic work the FOAH are doing to raise funds for our school. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you about the match funding scheme and how a little bit of your time could raise double the funds for the PTA. If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer. Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on. Usually, the employee will need to supply them with a letter from the PTA detailing the date and nature of the event, together with the total raised.
We understand that the high street banks, building societies, supermarkets and large corporations are likely to do match funding, but these schemes are not exclusive to the major corporate giants. If you work for an independent company, they may be interested in charitable giving through match funding too.
We would be grateful if you could see if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match fund any of our events. If you can’t help out this time, but you know the company you work for has a match funding policy, please let us know. This could be a really large source of income for the PTA and help us raise money.
If you are able to help us this way, please contact FOAH on foah@almondhill.herts.sch.uk and we can discuss your companies’ requirements. Thank you for your support.
