Issue 35 - 19th June 2026
Dear Families,
Hertfordshire’s Transition Day is on Thursday 9th July. Children in Year 6 will spend the day at their new secondary school and the rest of the school will move up to their new year group. In response to feedback from various places, including the most recent parent forum, we have looked at the way we do transition day here at Almond Hill. Children in current Years 3, 4 and 5 will start and end the day in their current classes which we hope will reduce some anxieties and make it easier for parents to collect their children at the end of the school day. Our new Year 3 intake for September 2026 will spend the day at Almond Hill so it is a very busy day for all.
We know some parents/children find the transition and change of teacher/classes daunting and so as promised, we will ‘announce’ the new class teachers for 2026/27 during that week and before transition day. Families who are joining us from Letchmore will know who their teachers are prior to this date due to additional transition visits taking place.
We kindly ask that parents wait until after transition day before getting in touch about new class allocations. In our experience, many initial worries subside once children have had the chance to spend time in their new class and meet their new teacher.
If, after transition day, you still have any genuine concerns, please do contact us. We’re always here to help.
Emma Fordham,
Headteacher
Key Messages
Behaviour at Lunchtime
We have received two complaints this term about pupils throwing objects over the hedge at lunchtime, resulting in members of the public being hit. This behaviour is clearly unacceptable and poses a risk to others, as well as reflecting negatively on our school. To address this, pupils will not be allowed beyond the goal near the hedge at the front of the school at break or lunch. Staff have spoken to pupils about this expectation and we will continue to reinforce it. I will be reiterating this with children in assembly. Please talk to your children about this at home.
Early Arrival at School
Please ensure children are not arriving to school before 8.45am. Staff are busy in meetings or preparing lessons and the children are not supervised at this time. Several incidents have occurred where children fall out, hurt each other and damaged each other's property. This has an impact on everyone’s learning and is not the way to start the day.
Schools Aims and Values – Reminder
We are reviewing our school’s aims and values this term with staff, governors, parents, and children.
We would really value your input. Please take some time to read them and share any feedback you may have. In particular, we would welcome your thoughts on whether anything should be added, changed, or removed.
Frogs that Flip Charity Fundraising Event
The Frogs that Flip are excited to announce a fun event for their second pledge!
They will be hosting a “Guess the Member of Staff by Their Baby Photo” challenge, and there’s already lots of excitement building among the children. The purpose of school government events like this is to help pupils fulfil their commitment to raising money for charities, while having fun as a school community.

Year 6 Graduations
We are in the process of planning for graduation and we would like to ask for your help!
If possible, please could you send in a photo (digitally) of your child either as a baby or toddler/younger child before they came to Almond Hill. This is not a necessity but would be nice. If you want your child to be included in this, please send your photo in by Tuesday 30th June. By sending the photo in, we will take this as consent for using for the purpose of graduation.
Please send photos to year6@almondhill.herts.sch.uk and use 'baby photo' as the subject.
There are still some families who have not yet booked tickets for graduation. Please log on to the Arbor App to order your tickets. As previously mentioned, spaces are limited to 3 per family. The booking will close at 12.00pm on Friday 26th June. Please book your places to enable us to plan the space in the hall.
- Tuesday 14th July – 6S
- Wednesday 15th July – 6C
- Thursday 16th July - 6W
We would also like to ask if any children have any of the following we can borrow for a few weeks. It is for part of the graduation video. Think summer holidays!
- Sun glasses
- Sun hats
- Swim shorts
- Swim costumes and cover ups
- Beach towel
- Inflatables
- Plastic cups and jazzy straws
- Big beach bags
- Small handheld fans
- Deck chairs (yes deck chairs!)
- Sand pit
- Buckets and spades
- Flip flops
- Sun parasols
- Anything Hawaiian themed
The clothing items can be any size. We will make it work!
Please name anything that is sent in and give to your child’s class teacher. We cannot be responsible for any items that have been brought in. All items will be returned after we have filmed the video (hopefully by the end of June). We have some bits but the more we can borrow the better!

FOAH Update...
Father's Day Present Room
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make Father's Day Present Room a great success on Thursday. It was the culmination of months of planning and was a really enjoyable event. The children put a lot of thought into the gifts they picked for the special men in their lives. We hope it brings joy to all the dads/stepdads/grandads/uncles and so on when they open their gifts on Father's Day this Sunday!
FOAH can only run events like this for the children because of the wonderful team of volunteers who chip in to help. If you could spare a bit of time, even just an hour once every few months, to help at a future present room or another FOAH event, please drop us a line now to our email address: foah@almondhill.herts.sch.uk
The more helpers we have, the smoother the events run and the more enjoyable they are for everyone! Many thanks.

FOAH will be hosting Frozen Fridays every Friday in July!
This year we are doing it differently, each child that pre orders will be given a token at the end of the day. As they come out of their classroom FOAH volunteers will be at a table in the year 5 playground and you can come and exchange your token for a lolly!
We will also be selling extras for £1 each too and will take cash and card on the day, but if possible please preorder so we know how many lollies to buy so we don’t run out and avoid disappointment!
Children can enjoy a cool treat for £1 each

You can pre-order on Arbor school shop from today – the deadline each week is Wednesday at 9:00am to give us time to buy the lollies.
This is always a big hit (especially when it’s hot!)
Thanks for your support – here's to a cool July!
