Issue 38 - 10th July 2026

Dear Families,

The summer term finishes at 1.00pm on Wednesday 22nd July.

We understand that Letchmore do not finish until Thursday 23rd July. Where we can, Letchmore and Almond Hill have the same term dates and INSET days but we are separate schools with different commitments so sometimes, differences can’t be avoided. However, as always, we do not want to put unnecessary pressure on families with children in both schools so we will finish early as planned on Wednesday (1.00pm) but for those parents who really need it, school will remain open until 3.15pm. Children will be invited to watch a film in the hall and will be supervised by support staff.

Year 3 and 4 – Please complete the consent request on Arbor. This must be completed if you want your child to stay until 3.15pm on the last day of term. If not completed, we will expect an adult to collect at 1.00pm.

Year 5 and 6 - This will be the last day of junior school for Year 6 and their early finish is a rite of passage that we do not want to take away but we do need to ask permission for children in the upper school to leave independently on the last day of term. Without consent, your child will not be released at 1.00pm and will be expected to stay until 3.15pm, unless collected by an adult.

It is essential that these are completed so that we can plan for the correct number of staff to supervise those remaining at the end of the school day. With that in mind, please can we ask all parents/guardians to complete the notice to either consent or decline the option given.

To access the consent, please login to the Arbor Parent App and go to 'notices' which can be found underneath your child's profile image on the homepage. Any problems, please contact the school office.

Please note, Premier will not be running after school club on this day.

Headteacher

Changes to Collection Arrangements

We understand that there are times when parents need to arrange for someone else to collect their child, whether at the end of the school day or for transport to and from sporting events or other activities. For safeguarding reasons, it is essential that we are informed of any such changes in advance. We cannot allow a child to be collected by someone who is not their parent or usual carer without prior confirmation from you. Currently, these messages are sometimes shared via phone calls, the main admin email, or year group email accounts. This can occasionally result in information being missed, delayed, or not seen in time. To improve both safeguarding and efficiency, we have introduced a dedicated Change to Collection form on our website. We kindly ask that you complete this form (in the same way you would report a same-day absence) whenever there is a change to your child’s usual collection arrangements. Please also use this form if another parent is collecting your child, including for school events.

Year 6 Leavers’ Events

Tuesday 14th (6S) Wednesday 15th (6C) Thursday 16th (6W) - Graduations

All graduations will take place from 2.00 till 4.00pm in the school hall.

Where possible, please arrange for younger siblings to be collected on the day of the graduation as space in the hall will be limited and it is nice for children in Year 6 to have this time to celebrate. Where this is absolutely impossible, please inform the class teacher of the younger sibling that they will need to be taken to the hall at the end of the school day. The Year 6 teachers have been busy putting together a wonderful event for you all and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.

It is a formal event and in previous years, the majority of children do wear formal attire be that a dress, suit or a shirt and tie but this is not compulsory (just think your best partywear – not football kit!) As always, we do not expect you to buy anything specifically for the afternoon. Children will need to wear uniform to school and they will change into their chosen outfit for the afternoon.

Friday 17th July - Fairlands Valley Park Trip

Please be aware, due to the predicted weather forecast, this may be cancelled at short notice.

As part of our end-of-year celebrations, we are excited to let you know that we will be taking our Year 6 children on a local trip to Fairlands Valley Park on Friday 17th July for their final outing at Almond Hill.

This is a local walking trip, so we do not require consent, but we would like to share some important information to help you and your child prepare for the day:

  • We will leave school shortly after morning registration and aim to return by approximately 1:30pm.

  • Please ensure your child comes to school with a packed lunch and water bottle plus additional drinks.

  • If your child is entitled to free school meals and would like one for that day, please inform the school office by Thursday 25th June so we can let the kitchen know.

  • Your child will need a swimming costume and towel, as we will finish the trip with some fun in the splash park (subject to it being open).

  • Children will also be enjoying time in the park, playing games on the green and having a picnic lunch together.

  • Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes suitable for walking to and from Fairlands.

  • Children can bring sun cream too. This should be clearly labelled with their name and must not be shared with other children in case of allergies. They must look after this themselves.

  • Children should not bring any money as we will not be buying refreshments at the park.

Friday 17th July - Shirt Signing

In the afternoon, once we have returned from Fairlands, we would also like to invite children to take part in the tradition of shirt signing to mark their final days at Almond Hill. If your child would like to participate, please ensure they bring in a spare school shirt that they are happy to have signed by their friends and teachers. Pens such as Sharpies are suggested but children will be responsible for any pens they bring in.

Preloved Book Sales

Our preloved book sales have now finished for this academic year. A big thank you to everyone who has donated or bought books this year!

We would love to add more books to our sales. If you have any you would like to donate (particularly chapter books), they would be gratefully received. Please give any books to your child’s class teacher.

Uniform Sales

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated or purchased uniform throughout the year. Your support has helped families save money, reduced waste, and contributed to a more sustainable school community.

FOAH Baseball Caps

Designed by the school along with FOAH, Almond Hill offer baseball caps to buy.

Unisex, and without a school logo but instead using our school moto ‘AIM HIGH’, this American style cap can be worn in and out of school.

We think it looks fantastic, and we hope you do too!

Perfect for hot weather, they are one size and come with a snap back rather than Velcro.

The caps are £8 each. Please place your orders on the Arbor School Shop. We will send them home with your children as soon as they arrive!

FOAH Update...

FOAH will be hosting Frozen Fridays every Friday in July!

Almond Hill children with a pre-ordered lolly will not need to queue. All pre-ordered lollies will be distributed by teachers to the children as they leave the classroom door at the end of the school day.

If you haven’t yet pre-ordered a lolly for your child for NEXT FRIDAY, please place your order now in the School Shop area of Arbor, before the cut-off at 9am this Wednesday 15th July. Ordering by this deadline ensures your child can pick an ice lolly of their choice when they leave their classroom at the end of the day on Friday. The Arbor pre-orders are for Almond Hill children only (there’s a one lolly limit per Arbor child account), to be distributed at their classroom door.

Children going to Premier after-school club will pick their lollies at their classroom and will be able to take them to after-school club to enjoy.

We will be selling extra lollies in the playground from 3.15pm on Friday, on a first-come first-served basis, for anyone wishing to pay by cash or card. You can purchase lollies in the playground for any siblings (or parents!) who would like one. We will have extra lolly choices this week (we were let down by the supermarket we ordered from last week!).

Thank you to the FOAH volunteers who kindly gave up their time to organise the event and help on the day. We need more parents to come forward and volunteer to help in the playground from 3pm on the next two Frozen Fridays. The more volunteers we have helping at the event, the more people we can serve more quickly. If you can help, please let a member of the FOAH team know or email FOAH@almondhill.herts.sch.uk
