Issue 8 - 23rd October 2026

Issue number:  8                                                                                                                           Date: 23rd October 2026

Dear Parents/Carers,

After a very busy weekend for Year 6 at Grafham, we have enjoyed a quieter week in school. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the staff who attended the weekend and to those who helped to organise it. Your time, energy and support were greatly appreciated.

There has still been plenty happening across the school. On Monday, we had a netball match, followed by our book sale on Wednesday. It was lovely to see so many families supporting the sale and helping us to celebrate reading together. We also enjoyed our final Year 3 parent lunch, which was a lovely opportunity for children and parents to share lunchtime together.

We hope all our parents and families have a lovely half-term break and enjoy some well-deserved time together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 2nd November. Our pop-up pool will be in situ and ready for swimming lessons to start.  I hope children are excited about the learning and opportunities the new half term will bring.

Finally, we would like to congratulate Miss Wase on her upcoming wedding! We hope you have a fantastic day.

Emma Fordham,
Headteacher

Your Views on Photographs

We have been researching safer practices for using images on our school website. One theme that has come up more often is the importance of limiting the use of single images of children on the website.

Although we have not experienced any incidents of poor use, we believe it is important to follow the guidance available in order to help keep our children safe. With this in mind, we ask parents not to send individual images of children for the website moving forward, including for our achievements page.

We would still love to celebrate children’s achievements. A photograph of a certificate, medal or anything else that symbolises the activity would be a great way for us to showcase these achievements on our website without using an individual photograph of a child.

We will continue to review our use of images, but we felt this was a good opportunity to ask parents how they feel about photographs appearing on our school website and/or Facebook page. Do you like seeing the photographs? Would you miss them if we decided to stop using photos? Perhaps you have suggestions that could help us make photographs more secure on our website.

Please share your thoughts with us so that we can take your views into account.

Would you like to continue seeing photos on our website?*
Would you be happy to only receive photos via Seesaw?*

Outdoor Learning – Thursday 5th November

We will be having an outdoor learning day on Thursday 5th November. Please make sure your child brings a coat and wears sensible shoes, as we will still go outside if it rains. If the weather has been particularly wet, you may wish for your child to bring in some wellies to change into. Thank you for helping your child to be prepared for an enjoyable day of outdoor learning.

School Government Elections

Every year, children at Almond Hill vote for their Prime Minister and government. This is an exciting opportunity for pupils to experience democracy first-hand and to have a real say in the priorities that matter to them.

Children in Year 6 are invited to form ‘parties’ and canvas children for their votes. Working together, each party discusses the changes they would like to see and prepares a clear set of promises to share with the school. Each party has to come up with a school, local, national and international pledge that they promise to fulfil throughout the year.

The campaign gives children the chance to speak confidently, listen carefully to different opinions and explain their ideas respectfully. It also encourages teamwork, responsibility and thoughtful decision-making. As pupils consider their votes, they can compare each party’s pledges and think about which promises would make the greatest difference. The elected Prime Minister and government then have the important job of representing children’s views and working towards their pledges during the year.

Our Year 6 children have been busy canvassing votes and I can now reveal our School Government for  2026-2027 are the Disco Ducks. Congratulations to Lilly, Daisy, Kit, Sophie and Harper.

New Member of Staff

As previously mentioned, we have a new teacher, Mr Hipkin, to support in 4W, who will join us after half term. This will allow for an extended handover period to ensure a smooth transition for both staff and pupils in 4W when Mrs Waldrom goes on maternity leave.

Hi Almond Hill children and parents. I am very excited to be joining your school. I've recently returned to Stevenage after teaching in China for two years and while my experiences were amazing, it's great to be home and starting the next part of my journey with Almond Hill. I enjoy teaching maths and phonics and am also excited to teach Geography. I absolutely love sports, especially football (which I coach and play) and in my spare time I like to make music and watch travel documentaries. I have heard and seen great things from Almond Hill and can't wait to be part of your team. I look forward to seeing you all soon! Mr Hipkin.

SEND and Pastoral Parent Drop ins...

We welcome all parents to attend our SEND and Pastoral 'drop ins' (whether your child has a diagnosis or not) if they feel they would benefit from speaking to our SENCo and/or our pastoral team. In our experience, almost all children benefit from pastoral support during their journey at school. Examples of where this has been supportive in the past are when friendship issues arise, loss of a pet, online issues outside of school, family break up and bereavement. We are always delighted when more parents join us.

FOAH Update...

Halloween Disco

We are delighted to announce that Friends of Almond Hill will be hosting this year’s Halloween Disco on Monday 2nd November! πŸŽƒ This year, we’re going back to the good old-fashioned disco — music for everyone, dancing with all your friends, and no headphones required! πŸŽΆπŸ•ΊπŸ‘» So polish your pumpkins, grab your broomsticks and get ready to dance the night away!
Please do not leave/bring your child if you have not purchased a ticket. Unfortunately, we cannot allow entry without one and we would hate to cause any upset on the day.

Year 3

Children in Year 3 can stay at school at 3.15pm and their teacher will escort them to the disco. If your child is staying here, please ensure they have their costume or change of clothes with them. They will have time to change in class before the disco starts. In the past, we have had parents arrive at the end of the school day to dress their children in elaborate outfits, which takes a lot of time and means children miss out on what is a relatively short time at the disco. If your child is dressing up, please allow them to bring their costume to school so they can get ready with their classmates and make the most of the disco.

Years 4–6

Children in Years 4–6 must be dropped at the hall doors by the main office via the main office gate, which will be open. If your child is booked to go to Premier after-school club, they can bring a change of clothes with them and will be taken to the disco by an adult.

All children must be collected from the quadrant by an adult. As it may be dark when your child is being collected, we will see the children out individually to ensure everybody’s safety. Please form an orderly queue!
Please remember that staff and parents volunteer their time for these events, so we would really appreciate a prompt collection at the end of the disco. Phones are not allowed at the disco, so please make sure these are left at home.
We can't wait to see everyone on the dance floor! πŸ•·οΈπŸ‘»πŸŽƒ
