DT Visit to Thomas Alleyne
Year 5 really enjoyed their recent trip to Thomas Alleynes school to experience some activities linked to design and technology. They were able to see a 3D printer in action as well as a laser cutter. They studied the design process of various products made by upper KS3 students, from initial CAD designs, their prototypes, through to the final products. Pupils also got to use the cooking facilities and to follow a recipe to make yummy marshmallow rice crispie cakes. Their washing up skills were interesting! They then created a container for their crispie cakes, carefully cutting out, decorating and securing the net of a cube. Thomas Alleynes staff made each pupil a laser cut key charm as a momentum. They commented on how well behaved the children were and there were many comments from the children about how much fun they had. A big thank you to the staff at Thomas Alleynes for all of their hard work and a lovely afternoon for Year 5, experiencing a taste of secondary school.
