Issue 27 - 17th April 2026
Dear Families
We hope you had a lovely Easter break and were able to enjoy some sunshine. We have lots to look forward to this term. The summer term is always a busy one, with plenty of activities planned, so please do keep an eye on the school calendar and newsletter for key dates and information.
This week, parents in Years 4, 5, and 6 were invited to attend our Relationships and Health Education information meetings. I hope you found these sessions helpful and informative.
Our netball team are playing a match at Woolenwick today. We wish them the very best of luck!
Next week, some of our Year 5 children will be taking part in Bikeability. Please ensure you have read the information below regarding bike and helmet safety. It is important that bikes are brought into school every day next week for those children taking part.
It is also mock SATs week for Year 6 next week. Please can we all support them by making a conscious effort to arrive at school on time. Tests will be taking place in various areas across the school and movement around the building can be distracting.
Finally, a reminder that during the summer term, children may bring sun cream into school. This must be clearly labelled with your child’s name and must not be shared with other children due to allergies. Please also ensure that children have a hat and a water bottle with them each day. We remain ever hopeful that the sun will appear for more than just a couple of days!

Headteacher
Key Messages
Parent Survey

I am really pleased to see that many of you feel your child’s needs are being met at Almond Hill. The comments left by parents made were specific to their children and therefore it would not be appropriate to address those comments via the newsletter. I would encourage parents to reach out to their child’s class teacher to discuss any concerns.

Proposed Music and Poetry Recital
Mrs Cleaves and Mrs Fordham are hoping to host a Music and Poetry Recital on Thursday 25th June in the evening (6.00-7.00pm).
Children have already been informed about this event during assembly and have been invited to audition. We are keen for this evening to be a great success and we know that we have many talented musicians and performers in the school. We would therefore strongly encourage children to come forward and showcase their talents.
-
Any child wishing to sing on the evening must be a member of the school choir.
-
Children who would like to play an instrument should speak to Mrs Fordham about auditions.
-
All interested children will be able to audition for choral poetry, where they will perform a poem from our school poetry collection.
Please note that this is a proposed event and will only go ahead if there are enough children wishing to take part.
Children must be willing to practise (including lunchtime rehearsals for choral poetry) and committed to participating fully in the event, including the evening performance. Previous music and poetry evenings have been fantastic and very well received, and we hope this one will be just as successful.
Class Photos Wednesday 29th April
These will be taken in school on Wednesday 29th April. If your child’s class usually has P.E on Wednesdays, please can they come into school in their school uniform and have their PE kit with them to change into.
Year 6 Children
Class photos will be used in the yearbook. Please make every effort to ensure your child is present on the day as this will be our only opportunity to take a professional photograph. We will not be able to arrange additional sessions and only the photo taken by the photographers on the day will be used.
Year 6 Graduations
Some parents in Year 6 will have had children who have already come up through the school and moved onto secondary school but for others, this may be your first child who has reached Year 6 at Almond Hill. We believe it is important to recognise the hard work, achievements and memories that are made in the time children are here which is why we hold ‘graduations’ for all children in Year 6. It is a wonderful opportunity to really celebrate with families and we would love for as many parents to attend as possible.
The graduations will take place in the school hall 2.00-4.00pm on the following days:
Tuesday 14th July - 6S
Wednesday 15th July – 6C
Thursday 16th July – 6W
More information will be sent, including how to get your tickets, closer to the time.
Year 5 Bikeability
I hope children are looking forward to Bikeability which will take place 20th-26th April. It is really important that bikes and helmets are checked before the course starts so please ensure this is done before the first day. This link is a handy guide: https://www.bikeability.org.uk/about-cycle-training/cycle-training-for-children/ and please can we ask that parents/carers watch this short video: How To: Fit Your Bike Helmet

ECO Committee Update

We explored what makes a good pond habitat, including the need for sunlight, shelter and a safe space for wildlife. We then carried out a survey of our local a…
