Year 5 Regeneration Tour

Following on from our trips to the new town in year 4, Year 5 had the opportunity to take part in another event linked to the regeneration of Stevenage on Thursday.

This time, the trip was based in the Old Town, Stevenage. We were met by representatives of Stevenage Borough Council who described to the children what the Old Town was like hundreds of years ago. They explained how the High Street was a Roman road and a main route North, to London. People who were travelling on horse and cart  stopped at the Old Town's various coaching inns. They described how a fire had ripped through the Old Town hundreds of years ago, started by a maid throwing cinders out of a window and how St Nicholas Church is the oldest building in Stevenage. The guides were very informative and the children learned a lot about the history of the town where they go to school.
