Information for parents of children currently in year 2 or for those children joining us in year.
Welcome to Almond Hill Junior School
We know that sometimes when we are starting something new it can feel a bit scary. We hope our film will show you that although it will be a bit different here than at Letchmore, it will be just fine with nothing to worry about.
Uniform may be ordered online through My Clothing at https://myclothing.com - then by selecting ‘school’ and following through to customise items. Please support your child to look after their uniform by naming items clearly.
Medical and Diet Information
It is very important that you inform us of any medical needs your child may have so we know how best to support them.
If your child has Asthma or a medical condition that requires treatment with an Epipen, please complete the form on the forms and surveys page.
If you are providing packed lunches for your child they must not include any nut products. If your child has any allergies please inform us in writing as it will be necessary for parents to complete an online application for a special diet before they start to have school lunches. We are unable to provide a school meal until this has taken place.
Transition letter sent to parents 27th May 2021
I am delighted you have chosen Almond Hill for your child’s junior education. Unfortunately, for many of you, my first contact with you is through this letter and not in person, but our current circumstances have meant that my usual introductory assembly with you as new parents cannot take place as it would typically.
Over the years, we have developed and refined our programme for transition through close collaboration between Year 2 and Year 3 teachers along with feedback from parents and children. Comments we have received from those who have made the transition have been very positive and although this cannot be exactly the same this year, we are working together to adapt so we provide you and your child with information to support a smooth move to junior school.
I know that again this year we have some additional considerations to address but we feel confident that we are to meet the children’s needs. We want the children and yourselves to be able to get to know us, to minimise any worries you or your child might have and most importantly for children to be excited and look forward to coming to their new school.
Last year, our staff and children created a series of short films so that pupils who were not able to visit could still gain an understanding of what it is like to be a member of the Almond Hill family. Although visits for children are planned to take place this year, I would still like to invite you to take a look at these and they can be found on our website: www.almondhill.herts.sch.uk/transition
Please see below a summary of key dates for transition.

|Transition Day – Year 2 children to visit Almond Hill. Children will stay at Almond Hill all day. Please drop your child via the class room doors at 9.00am. Packed lunches will be provided by Letchmore. Please collect your child 2.30pm – 3.00pm and come and say ‘Hello’ to the class teacher.|
|Thursday 26th August||
Children are invited to come to our summer school which takes place a few days before the start of term. It is a chance for children to familiarise themselves with the school environment and their teachers just before their first day.
This is not essential as we appreciate that this may clash with your own holiday dates and not all children will be able to attend. If you wish your child to come along, they will need a packed lunch. Further details will follow.
Please bring your child to their classroom at 10.00am and collect them at 2.00pm.
Accompanying this letter are forms that we need you to complete for admission purposes. Please can you complete them by Monday 21st June 2021. The forms are digital and can be completed on your smartphone: www.almondhill.herts.sch.uk/admissions-form
We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions at any time, please contact myself or Mrs. Brocklehurst (Deputy Head) at Almond Hill.

Letter sent to Parents - June 2021
Thank you to those that have already completed the admissions forms online, please can I remind you that these must be completed by Monday 21st June, along with the form to book your child’s place at our summer school on Thursday 26th August. If your child has a medical condition that requires them to have an inhaler or Epipen in school, please complete the relevant form on our website. The forms can be found by following the links below.
To help us to get to know you and your children as much as possible before you join Almond Hill in September, we have created a ‘welcome survey’ for you to complete with your child. These will be shared with your child’s class teacher and school leaders to help us to best support your child through their transition. Please take the time to complete the survey by Monday 5th July: www.almondhill.herts.sch.uk/welcome-survey
Free School Meals
You may already be aware that the Government programme that entitles children in the infant phase to a free school meal each day will no longer apply once your child is in junior school.
If you receive a government benefit, such as Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance, your child may still qualify for a free school meal. You can find information about eligibility criteria online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals You will need to apply for this once your child has left Letchmore Infants in the summer and before they start at Almond Hill in September. If you need any more information about this, please contact us.
